Since Israel Hate Watch was launched in June 2016, we’ve had a number of excellent pieces written by local and national activists seeking to expose hatred of Israel and offer a better alternative. Today we highlight the top 5 most read Israel Hate Watch blogs of 2016.

1.The most popular Israel Hate Watch Blog of 2016 was written by Stephen Hoffman, We Believe in Israel’s Campaign Executive. The blog titled ‘Corbyn and antisemitism in the Labour Party’ was a fierce critique of the rise of antisemitism in the Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn. The blog gave the opinion that Corbyn had not only done far too little to address the problem, but was part of the problem.

2.The second most popular Israel Hate Watch Blog of 2016 was written by the President of the City of London University Jewish Society, Michali Belovski in the aftermath City of London University Union’s vote in favour of boycotting Israel. The blog titled ‘City University London Student’s Union unjust boycott of Israel’ was a heartfelt piece explaining how the boycott vote as a Jew and Zionist at the university made her feel.

3. The third most popular Israel Hate Watch blog of 2016 was written by Jonathan Farrell, Exeter University Friends of Israel’s Society President. The piece aptly titled ‘Prejudice in the face of an Israeli’ highlighted how anti-Israel activists showed their contempt for free speech by trying to shut down Israeli born-speaker Dr Yaron Brook from speaking, even though his talk had nothing to do with the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.

4.The fourth most popular Israel Hate Watch blog of 2016 was written by Simon Johnson, CEO of the Jewish Leadership Council piece titled ‘Sporting hate of Israel is futile gesture politics’. The article provided a detailed critique of the sporting prejudice shown by a minority towards Israel at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and the flying of Palestinian flags by Celtic fans. It was a strong message about the fact that sport should not be used as a vehicle to delegitimise Israel.

5. The fifth most popular Israel Hate Watch blog of 2016 was written by North London Friend of Israel activist Harry Goldstein.  The blog titled ‘Terrorist Flags fly over London ’gave a detailed report of the hateful Al Quds Day March, which once again in 2016 led to the shameful sight of the flags of the antisemitic terrorist organisation Hezbollah being flown on the streets of London.  It was a reminder of how hate of Israel can often manifest itself through antisemitism.
