Hatred on display at Jerusalem demo

Hatred on display at Jerusalem demo

Something happens in Israel. Well actually, it doesn’t even happen in Israel. It isn’t even something done by Israel or Israelis. In this case it was an announcement by a US President about US policy.

The Palestinian Solidarity Campaign (PSC) calls a protest.

Questionable placards are paraded and chants sung.

The protest on Friday outside the American Embassy was no different.

The PSC alongside Palestinian Forum in Britain (PFB), Friends of Al Aqsa (FOA), Stop the War Coalition (STW), and the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) organised this protest to demonstrate against Trump recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and promising to move the American Embassy there.

Participants were videoed chanting “Khaybar Khaybar, ya yahud, Jaish Muhammad, sa yahud.” This translates as “Jews, remember Khaybar the army of Muhammad is returning”.

This is referencing the conquest of Jews in Khaybar by Muslims in the year 628. After the attack, in which nearly 100 Jews were killed, Jews were only allowed to remain on condition that they paid 50% tax on their crops and became second-class citizens until they were expelled completely after Mohammed’s death.

“Khaybar Khaybar” incites violence and calls for Jews to be defeated in battle and reduced to  Dhimmi status.

The organisers have since released a statement condemning the chant and claiming the hateful chorus took place after the protest was over.

“On Friday our organisations co-organised a protest outside the US embassy in London to protest President Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and his intention to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem. The protest was attended by more than 3000 people and was peaceful. We have been made aware that after the main demonstration had disbanded some of those who had been present remained and chanted slogans which demonstrated hatred and advocated violence. We deplore such behaviours, which are not, shared or endorsed by our organisations or by the vast majority of those who attended the demonstration  As organisations we stand against racism and discrimination of all forms including antisemitism. They have no place in our movement which is rooted in principles of recognition of the respect owed to all and the rights that belong to all regardless of race, ethnicity gender or religion. We remind all those who attend our demonstrations, protests and events of the need to ensure all aspects of their behaviour are in line with these principles.”

Ruptly TV however live streamed the protest and has over 2 hours of footage, with “Khaybar Khaybar 17.5 minutes in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otJvQwiC_Yg&feature=youtu.be

Activist David Collier also has footage of the leader of the chanting holding a PSC placard. http://david-collier.com/islamic-war-london-antisemitism/

At least the organisers condemned the chant; others remained silent including Members of Parliament who were present. Andy Slaughter MP has failed to condemn the chant at a rally he spoke at.

We call on MPs to not let antisemitism happen on our streets.

Please email your MP to protest about antisemitism and incitement to violence against Jewish people being part of demonstrations about Israel http://www.webelieveinisrael.org.uk/campaign/keep-hatred-debate-israel/
